Design for Media: Project Hiroshi Hayakawa
Figure as Landscape or Menagerie?
For this project, I decide to do Figure as Landscape rather than do Menagerie for Project Hiroshi Hayakawa. I will be interested in experimenting with the light and the shadow of landscape or an object that could interact with the surrounded atmosphere. Light and shadows are inseparable. Those two elements in photography live with one another, and photographers depend very much on these two elements to create the mood and effects out of their pictures. Every time when I take a photograph of something, it is usually hard to evaluate light correctly and to judge shadows confidently. Manipulating light distribution and shows professionally are of core importance to know to achieve the best optimum effect. When light is created and shadow helps to enhance the appearance of the subject much more strongly. The interaction between those two elements is fascinating. Sometimes, the shadows that an object cast are able to relate much more than the actual subject. And in some cases, the subject is even omitted from the frame, leaving the shadow alone to tell the whole story. However, we must be able to distinguish between distracting shadows (that should be avoided) and compelling shadows. A compelling shadow often creates depth in a picture, giving it a third dimensional feel. The effect of shadows can sometimes also create a mysterious mood or suspense to the viewer.

For Photography I class.
1. Where are you on the dreamer/doer spectrum (why)?
: If I need to categorize myself either a dreamer or a doer, I feel I am more close to a doer. It’s because I used to have a difficulty to form a good vision to follow and usually struggle with generating ideas when starting a project.
2. What area(s) of Media Arts are you going to test-drive (have you ever produced animation/cinematic/photography masterpiece? What are your goals for this course? What will be your accomplishment?) What are you proud of in your work? Include at least one image of your own art.
: Motion graphics is what I mostly focus on, and I want to have various experiences in photography and video so that I can produce work rather than just a two-dimensional art piece. I took some of computer design classes that taught me how to use Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, Flash, and etc. so I feel like I am pretty much proud of my work that I created through any of these programs, especially Illustrator.
